The event’s Web site states the goal of “One Day Without Shoes” is to increase awareness of the risks to people in developing countries who do not have adequate access to shoes.
TOMS Shoes is the world-wide coordinator of “One Day Without Shoes.” The TOMS Shoes Web Site states “wearing shoes and practicing basic hygiene can prevent both infection and disease due to unsafe roads and contaminated soil.
“By imagining a life barefoot, we can all contribute to the awareness of these conditions.”
Katie Zacharias, sophomore of Chadron, said things will move outside to the clock tower at approximately 11 a.m. for a shoe kick-off contest and foot painting.
The event will conclude with an unshod mini-walk around campus.
