Student Senate

Petitions for senatorial positions including at large, school, and residence hall senators; and executive board positions are due March 23 to Chief Justice Coy Clark. In order to become Senate vice president, the student must have spent at least half a term, or one semester, on Senate and one full term, or two semesters, for president.

Senate President Katrina Hurley and Student Trustee Mikayla Gallagher said the Trustees are looking for support from Senate to possibly change Board Policy 3400 concerning the Board of Trustees scholarships. They are trying to change it so students who receive the scholarships can use their tuition waiver for summer classes or more than 16 credit hours a semester. Students would be able to use it for 128 total credit hours. Senators will vote on this at the next meeting.

An open forum concerning constitutional changes in the CSC Student Association Constitution was Thursday. One student was in attendance.

Mari Sandoz Center Museum Director Sarah Polak said the Sandoz Center will be hosting a Sandoz Center dance instead of an Alice in Wonderland rave. There were concerns about an Alice in Wonderland themed rave.

Senate allocated $35,300 Monday night for the Spring Daze event in April. The amount was adjusted from the previously discussed $37,000 the committee was asking for. The adjustment came after students suggested that the amount estimated for “swag” items was too much. The committee decided to eliminate the sunglasses, wristbands, and hats that were going to be handed out and sold at the event.

Monday, Student Senate will be asking for an allocation of $37,000 for a festival event, Spring Daze, April 28-30. Student Senate President Katrina Hurley said that this allocation will leave enough money in the account for the events planned the rest of the year.

An open forum concerning an allocation of $6,000 to install more water bottle filling stations on campus was Friday. No students attended the forum.

Senate allocated $10,400 during Monday’s meeting. At the beginning of the meeting, Student Senate had $64,440.50 in unallocated funds.

An open forum concerning constitutional changes in the first 10 pages of the CSC Student Association Constitution was Thursday. Student Senate President Katrina Hurley, Senator At Large Stephanie Alfred, Senator of Brooks Hall Curtis Stevens, and one student were there.
