Prairie dog: pet or pest?

If you take a ride with almost any rancher in Western Nebraska you will learn a fair share of knowledge. They will tell you about that drought from a few years back. They might discuss how long the land has been in the family. They will definitely tell you how many head of cattle they own. Finally, they will reference to those nuisance prairie dogs that are “taking over their pasture.” When that happens, I tend to just sneak a grin out the corner of my mouth and proceed to the next topic.

The Chadron State College men’s and women’s rodeo teams added valuable points to their team standings last weekend at the Gillette College Rodeo with first place performances from Clayton Van Aken, graduate student of Descanso, California, in tie down; Justin Kissack, junior of Gillette, Wyoming, in bareback riding, and Shelby Winchell, graduate student of Scottsbluff, in goat tying.

Reuwsaat brings home gold from national championships

The Chadron State track and field team concluded its strong indoor season with nine athletes traveling to the NCAA D-II Indoor Track and Field Championships at Pittsburgh State University, Pittsburgh, Kansas. Long jumpers Stachia Reuwsaat, junior of Rapid City, South Dakota, and Damarcus Simpson, sophomore of Lafayette, Georgia, and led the way finishing first and second, respectively in their events.

Men’s rodeo team ropes big win in Torrington

The Chadron State College men’s and women’s rodeo teams began the Central Rocky Mountain Region’s spring rodeo circuit on a strong foot this weekend at the Eastern Wyoming College rodeo in Torrington. Chadron State’s Prestyn Novak, sophomore of Newell, South Dakota, and Clayton Van Aken, graduate student of Descanso, California, finished first and second in the all-around cowboy standings, respectively.
