For the third consecutive meet, upperclassmen led both the Chadron State men’s and women’s cross country teams to the finish line. Eagles competed at the prestigious Roy Griak Cross Country Meet hosted by the University of Minnesota, on the Les Bolstad Golf Course in Falcon Heights, Minnesota, Saturday.

With the first meet of the season rapidly approaching, the CSC cross country teams have been busy training for the season.

The Chadron State women’s track and field team led the way winning six events and setting school records in five of them at the Nature’s Bakery Invitational at Colorado School of Mines, Golden.

“Long jump is a beautiful event where every day provides you with small failures and successes. That is why it is so fun. It constantly forces you to change and improve each day,” 2016 NCAA D-II Indoor Track and Field Long Jump National Champion Stachia Reuwsaat said.

The 2016 outdoor season continues to be a remarkable one for the Chadron State track and field team as they competed at three big meets in California: the Mt. SAC Relays, Azusa; the Brian Clay Invitational, Azusa; and the Long Beach State Invitational, Long Beach. The Eagles broke eight school records and hit a combined 53 season-best marks.

All-American long jumpers Damarcus Simpson, sophomore of Lafayette, Georgia, and Stachia Reuwsaat, junior of Black Hawk, South Dakota, earned RMAC honors this week after the Colorado State University-Pueblo Open. Both won the men’s and women’s long jump, respectively. Simpson jumped 24 feet, 1 inch, and Reuwsaat jumped 19-2 3/4.

The CSC women’s golf team took first place at the South Dakota School of Mines and Technology, Rapid City, invitational at Hart Ranch Golf Course, Tuesday.

The Chadron State track and field team sent about 30 athletes to the first outdoor meet of the season; competing at the Yellow Jacket Spring Open at Black Hills State University, Spearfish, South Dakota. The Eagles opened the outdoor season with nearly a dozen athletes hitting personal bests.
