‘Dirty Dancing’ embodies more than just dirty dancing

Dancing and love provide the basis of the 1987 romantic drama movie based in 1963-“Dirty Dancing.” This movie follows the life of Frances “Baby” Houseman, played by Jennifer Grey, through a summer with her family at a resort before she joins the Peace Corp. Over the duration of the summer at the Kellerman’s resort in the Catskill Mountains, Baby’s curiosity leads her to the staff quarters where she meets Johnny Castle, played by Patrick Swayze, a dance instructor, and develops a connection with him. Baby quickly finds herself pulled into the lifestyle of the staff’s living and witnesses how the staff is treated.

‘Damaged Goods’ is timeless social commentary

I’ve never cared for the punk rock cliche of patches and spiky jackets, which is why I’m quite partial to the English post-punk outfit, Gang of Four. Named after the infamous “Gang of Four,” a group of Chinese communist counter-revolutionaries who were unseated in the 1970s, Gang of Four has had a long career and inspired a host of bands ranging from Ian McKaye’s Fugazi, to Rage Against the Machine.

Sheldon Museum of Art’s show explores views of nature

Old meets new in Memorial Hall’s newest Main Gallery art show, an exploration of a timeless force on the human landscape: nature. On tour from UNL’s Sheldon Museum of Art, the show, titled “Depicting Nature, From Scientific to the Sublime,” features 16 works which “explore the various ways that artists explore nature.” This statement comes from the elegant show pamphlet, which outlines the works on display.
