CSC’s two presidential candidates, Guy Mills and Randy Rhine, were on campus this week to speak with students and faculty. There was a student meeting for both Mills and Rhine.

Chadron State College boasts the lowest advertised rate for the 2011-12 academic year at $4,330, according to a survey of tuition and fee rates among 36 four-year colleges and universities in the Midwest.

This year, zombies hit the school for Homecoming. However, the zombies weren’t all fake.

Homecoming is a special time of year. It is a time for blessed union between an institution’s current student body and the droves of alumni who return to celebrate their Alma mater.

Change is sometimes a necessity for items or ideas that don’t seem to be adequate for a situation. Change can bring about great outcomes; however, it can also be redundant and hinder more than it helps.

It’s not uncommon hearing students complain about certain Dining Services policies, particularly the policy that requires one to have their student ID card to get their meals. Be it the Cafeteria, the Grille, or the C-Store, students are familiar hearing, “Sorry, you need your card. You can’t just give your student ID number.”

All of us have been in school for about four weeks now, and hopefully everyone’s settled in pretty well. We all know our routine, the amount of time to spend on homework, and how to arrange our schedules around our class periods. But some people are claiming that they have nothing to do, and that life in Chadron and on campus is boring.

This past week’s fires brought disastrous consequences and smoky air to Chadron. Scanning Facebook the first day of the fires showed many reactions that included “my thoughts and prayers to those moved from their homes,” or “I hope that my Chadron friends are safe and well.”

Just when the Internet had quieted down over the Daniel Tosh “rape-is-funny” controversy, the camp of men who claim to know how rape is for women launched another salvo of stupidity.
