Have a safe, responsible Halloween weekend
Halloween falls on a Friday this year, so we can all don our costumes, go to parties or out to the bars, get smashed, and then have a whole weekend to sleep away our hangovers. The ghost of Charlie Sheen Past echoes through time: “Winning!”
But let’s stop and do some math: skimpy outfits + booze = problems. We all want to have a safe and fun Halloween, so let’s look at some potential risks and consequences, and how we can avoid them.

Sen. actions are disappointing
This weekend, CSC’s Student Senate hosted members of Wayne State College and Peru State College Student Senates for the Senate Leadership Conference, and I was asked to cover a couple of the meetings for The Eagle. I can honestly say I was impressed with some of the ideas brought up in these meetings, but I was not impressed with the way some of the senators acted during the meetings.

A few years ago a colleague showed me in disbelief the following sentence from a student’s paper on Stephen Crane’s The Red Badge of Courage: “During the Civil War, most families were so poor that they couldn’t afford a TV and had to get their news from newspapers.”
I was reminded of this anecdote when I read Kyle Tarbutton’s article “Sandoz Center exhibit explores Depression-era photographs” in the October 23, 2014 edition of The Eagle (pg. 17).

Don’t sacrifice your privacy for social media
Two weeks ago, hackers leaked an archive containing over 200,000 images. While most news reports indicate that this hack was limited to users of a European-based third-party application that allowed users to save Snapchat messages, Snapchat has issued statements assuring its users that they can continue using the app without fear of their privacy being violated.
