I spend a lot of my time observing people, especially strong, kind, and virtuous people. I notice certain aspects that distinguish these people in my eyes, and so I try to follow the examples they set.

Problems seem to have a way of finding us. For example, at times we have all thought this before: I am never able to get things done because I have a problem with staying busy.

In September of 2011, I decided I was going to kill myself. I walked to the medicine cabinet, took every single pill I could find, and listened to some Pink Floyd, waiting for my life to end.

January’s magnum opus is its seeming ability to craft change in our lives. It is the month, after all, that brings us New Year’s and all of the resolutions that come with it.

Many people strive, on a daily basis, to make a difference in the world, but a great number of those many people do not believe it is possible.

I am tired.

Over the course of this semester, I have stretched myself to the breaking point. And I know that I’m not the only one.

Nebraska is a place where people really care about their family. I am not saying that other people don’t, but in Nebraska and the Midwest in general, you can find 19-21-year-old girls engaged or looking for a guy to settle down with.

After a heated battle last Christmas which included shimmying, jumping, lunging, and sweating, my favorite pair of jeans had ripped right down the middle. I asked a family member if they could possibly be sewn back together.
