Letter: Randy Bauer on ‘profanity’
Dear Editor:
The political cartoon you chose to publish in your March 29, 2012, edition of The Eagle newspaper is something you would expect to see on the walls of a middle school boy’s bathroom rather than in a newspaper.
As such, your choice to use that cartoon deserves the same respect. Profanity is an effective way to get a reaction, as evidenced by this letter. However, the use of profanity to make a point is both lazy and uneducated.
A Google search revealed an appropriate quote, “When a man uses profanity to support an argument, it indicates that either the man or the argument are weak, probably both.”
Let me introduce you to a concept that may be foreign to you – “shame: a painful emotion caused by the consciousness of guilt, shortcoming, or impropriety.”
Experiencing this concept may help you avoid such an unprofessional act in the future.
—Randy Bauer,
of Chadron

Very Very disappointed, ashamed, and embarrassed in my alma mater’s school newspaper. I cannot believe that the school editor would permit this to be published. Maybe he can give us a statement for the reason he chose to allow this.
Randy Bauer- We’ve been waiting for you to come out of the woodwork. Many of us thought the recent O’Boyle cartoon was right on !!!!!! Perhaps you are a bit biased and it hit a little too close to home. I personally laughed so hard I almost choked on my tonsils. The cartoon artist is very talented and no where did I see any written profanity. I find it very interesting that you are so upset about it.
Mr. Bauer:
A Google search revealed that profanity is “swearing, cursing, foul speech and cussing”. I’ve reviewed the cartoon several times and find no profanity. Could you explain to us all where you found the profanity?
If I am not mistaken, when you raise the middle finger, you are using profanity. Good for you Mr. Bauer, I too was very sad to see this.
Didn’t see any argument being supported, no agenda being pushed, only a whimsical look at a odd and unique situation. Some people will look for any reason discredit any angle except that of the csc admin or the nscs.
