CAB approves $500 to club for publication project
CAB approved a $500 allocation to Sigma Tau Delta, the English honor society, at CAB’s weekly meeting Tuesday night.
Jessica Hanks, the club’s president, came to ask for the money to print 150 copies of the “Tenth Street Miscellany.” The printing cost is estimated to be a little more than $1,000, and the English department is giving the club $575.
Vice President of Academic Affairs Charles Snare and Interim Assessment Director David Nesheim came to give a brief follow up from the results of the general assembly last week, where student leaders discussed the National Survey of Student Engagement.
Nesheim said that the students raised different concerns about advising and communication between faculty and staff that gave some insight into possible areas to improve on.
Snare said there will be a luncheon at noon, Friday, Nov. 18, for faculty, staff, and student leaders to discuss the results together.
He encouraged the CAB members to go back to their clubs and think about other issues they may have with advising, collaborative learning, and relationships between faculty and staff, and bring those concerns as well as possible solutions to the luncheon.
If club representatives wish to attend the luncheon, they need to email CAB Chair Molly O’Connell.
O’Connell announced that Senate has a petition to open the CSC library on Saturdays, and those interested in signing it should contact a senator.
Vice Chair of Finance Gavan Archibald reported that the total spent by clubs is $27,998.03, and the total remaining is $176,506.20. The total spent by CAB was $3,548.86, and the total remaining was $12,879.14.
Archibald is looking for one CAB member to fill an open position on the Activity Fee Board. He also announced that there will be a Husker Watch Party at 5:45 p.m. Saturday in The Hub.
Adviser Deena Kennell invited clubs to attend an open session meet-and-greet with the two candidates for Chris Green’s former position as student activities and NPAC coordinator. There will be two sessions; 1 p.m. Thursday in the Bordeaux Room, and 2 p.m. Friday in the Ponderosa Room.
Senate Vice President Karson Langley and Student Trustee Coy Clark brought up a new holiday fundraiser to donate to charity. Langley said they got the idea for a Christmas tree auction from Wayne State College senators on the Senate trip to Peru State College last week.
Senate will buy a 3-foot tree for every club that wants to participate. Clubs will purchase decorations and the decorated trees will be on display for a silent auction open to the entire community. The money will be given to the local Care and Share Drive to buy Christmas presents for children who are less fortunate.
“We’re doing this to fundraise for the community as a way to give back. Student Senate, nobody will be profiting from this.” Langley said. “We are strictly taking time out of our busy schedules to give back.”
There are guidelines for the decorations, including no curse words, sexual puns, or lude images. The Student Senate Executive Board will take down any tree that they find to be inappropriate.
Clubs must sign up at the CAB meeting Tuesday if they want to participate. O’Connell said that CAB could possibly give a $50 budget to clubs that want to participate, so they can buy decorations.
Tree decorating will be from Nov. 28 to Dec. 2. The silent auction will be from Dec. 5-12, and the trees will be given to the highest bidder at a holiday party in the Student Center.
O’Connell announced that Paul Wesselmann, “The Ripples Guy,” will be returning to campus 7 p.m. today in the Student Center Ballroom.
Vice Chair of Relations Trista Schell said Nov. 8, 16, and 17, are all open dates that clubs can sign up to help serve at Closer to Home.
