CAB allocates almost $2,000 for honors society trip

Tuesday night CAB approved an allocation of nearly $2,000 to send two honors society members to a national conference in Kentucky.
Sigma Tau Delta representative Mary Anne Johnson said that two of her club’s literary journals from last semester were selected by the National Sigma Tau Delta Committee to receive recognition at the national convention. CAB had allocated money to the club last semester to print the journals.
Johnson passed out an itemized list of expenses totaling $1,852 that her club was requesting to send the two authors on the trip. The costs per student are: $580 for a flight from Rapid City, South Dakota, to Louisville, Kentucky; $234.50 for a hotel room; $60 for the conference registration fee; $22 for the awards ceremony; and $30 for airport to hotel transportation.
CAB also voted between two candidates, Choir representative Kayla Cameron and Public Relations representative Shae Brennan, to fill the Vice Chair of Relations position. By a show of hands Brennan was elected.
Chair Morgan Carrico announced that they will be sending out a nondiscrimination clause that needs to be added to each club’s constitution. She also reminded clubs that Water Pong is Friday and Life-Size Pool is Feb. 24.
Vice Chair of Programming Trista Schell noted that Free Movie Night had a great turnout Sunday, with more than 270 students attending. She also announced the open dates to volunteer at Closer to Home are Feb. 21, 24, and 28.
Vice Chair of Records Aaron Eagle asked clubs to fill out a contact info sheet for the officers and advisers of their club.
Vice Chair of Finance Gavan Archibald reported the total spent from the clubs’ budget is $50,984.95, and the total remaining is $150,519.28.
He also asked clubs to fill out the contact information sheets so budget packets can be sent out. The Activity Fee Board will be sending the packets out Monday, and they are due back March 3.
The signup sheet for budget hearings will be posted on the Senate office door March 13-24, and the hearings will be March 27-31.
Adviser Cassie Mitchell passed out a CAB Program Prep Checklist to inform clubs of the required steps they must take before hosting an event.
Mitchell also announced that she has applications for anyone interested in becoming a Group Fitness counselor on campus. There is the possibility of a paid internship with Group Fitness GA Jessica Stodola.
Adviser Pat Beu reminded clubs that nominations for Student Trustee are due Monday.
Student Trustee Coy Clark had two announcements. First, he alerted students to be watching for four surveys to come to their EagleMail accounts this semester, from the Higher Learning Committee, National Survey of Student Engagement (NSSE), Campus Climate, and American College Health Association-National College Health Assessment (ACHA-NCHA).
Interim Director of Assessment and Academic Affairs David Nesheim, Vice President of Academic Affairs Charles Snare, and Beu will give a brief overview of those surveys at the next CAB meeting.
“We base a lot of our decisions off of that, and a lot of things that we see as needs improvement from those surveys are things that the school is able to plan on building toward,” Clark said.
He then brought notice to an all-campus email from Chancellor Stan Carpenter reassuring students not to be fearful of the new executive travel ban.
The memo states, “I personally want to reassure each of you, that your college community supports all of our students, faculty and staff regardless of their nationality or religion.”
