With the wide-open spaces that surround Chadron, there is a tendency to think that we are environmentally friendly due to the lack of smog. The skies are clear and the air is fresh and because of the Nebraska wind our carbon emissions are carried elsewhere.

At Chadron State College, athletes are used to playing sports with these phrases repeated in the background.

Many readers have questioned Woodhead’s “team’s failure” and despite a clarification from Davis, people continue to send angry comments. The controversy surrounding this issue is of similar magnitude to that about last semester’s columns by Jon Marquez.

Perhaps it is merely this college’s fate to see generation after generation of students who are simply trying to get a degree without incident and move on into the career world.

We’ve recently seen a rise in violence in America. From the most current incident in Tucson, Ariz., involving the shooting of Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords, to the “endangered disappearance” of middle-school cheerleader Hailey Dunn, to Nebraska’s own Tyler Thomas, it seems that our nation is increasingly prone to violence.

Is leadership a lost goal among students at Chadron State College? Astonishingly few students out of the entire student body demonstrated their desire and enthusiasm at the recent election to serve in the capacity of student government representatives. Of the five who ran for office, four were already senators.

We feel members of the Senate Finance Committee acted irresponsibly and without regard to the effect on our readers on and off campus.

We are curious why the Student Senate, and by extension the Senate Finance Committee think discussions about how the student body’s money is spent should not be shared with or explained to the student body.
