Former Eagle nabs Wyoming newspaper awards

Chadron State College alumnus and journalist was recently honored by the Wyoming Press Association at its 2016 awards banquet.
Former editor of The Eagle Spike Jordan received two awards from the WPA at its annual convention in Cheyenne, Wyoming, on Friday, Jan. 20.
Jordan earned first place for general news story in the large weekly category, and shared a second-place prize in energy and business reporting with his former colleagues at the Douglas Budget, in Douglas, Wyoming.
Jordan spoke highly of the journalism program at CSC.
“I owe a lot to Michael Kennedy for getting me ready for the trenches,” Jordan said. “I’m sincerely grateful to have had the opportunity to cut my teeth at The Eagle, as well as working alongside so many other talented young journalists and editors.”
Jordan, who now works for the Star-Herald in Scottsbluff, said that he felt ecstatic to learn that he’d won the awards, but emphasized that he’s since curbed his enthusiasm.
“Kennedy often told me the most important words a journalist needs to hear—’You’re only as good as the last thing you did.’”
