How to ‘Jazz’ up your breakfast

Students learned how to cook various breakfast dishes such as eggs, breakfast burritos, bacon, and hash browns at Cooking With Jazz Monday evening in The Hub. The brains behind the event, Jazz Bozner, 25, grad student of Rock Springs, Wyoming, wanted to give students a chance to learn how to cook a little bit and offered tips on what ingredients to use and the best techniques that he uses in the kitchen. Some helpful hints he offered to participating students included:
• using both oil and butter to grease the pan
• using lots of oil so nothing sticks
• getting the pan nice and hot
• keeping raw foods away from vegetables
• for an over-easy egg, using a cover while cooking will help cook the top of the egg at the same time, or basting the top in oil works as well
“I learned to cook from my old man. My parents passed it on to me,” Bozner said.
About six hot plates were set up around the room where students were able to cook a dish of their choice. Bozner hopped from station to station offering tips and tricks to the students preparing their breakfast masterpieces.
Bri Lyon, 19, freshman of Colorado Springs, Colorado, attended the event and said it was helpful for those who don’t cook often.
“I think it’s pretty cool actually. I don’t usually do the cooking,” she said. Lyon and her friends have “family dinners” on Sundays because they miss home cooking.
