Spring break 2017 is quickly approaching which means it’s not too early to begin planning. Now is the time determine if your travel group wants the classic college spring break or to keep your own unique adventure.

Destinations like Myrtle Beach, North Carolina; South Padre Island, Texas; Orange Beach, Alabama; and Daytona Beach, Florida, have thousands of spring breakers pass through every year.

Mainstream spring break destinations are a collegiate melting pot for new connections. All of these spring break destinations are riddled with cheap hotel rooms and Airbnb’s.

Meeting new people from across the nation is an extrovert’s dream come true but a housing nightmare.  Everyone will be looking for housing accommodations the same time as your group. Making reservations early is critical to ensuring a place to stay at reasonable prices.

Alternative places to stay are camping sites or using websites like couchsurfing.com.

State parks like Myrtle Beach State Park, South Carolina, or Gulf Shores State Park, Alabama, have comfortable tent camping sites with amenities for less than $30 a night. Keep in mind typical spring break locations increase prices during spring break because of the influx of people.

Nontraditional spring break destinations have unique perks for those willing to go off the beaten path. Benefits of traveling different places include cheaper prices, less people to contend with, and unique adventures you can’t get on a crowded beach.

Due to our early spring break, March 6-10, many tourist locations like the Grand Canyon are in the off-season. Traveling in the off-season can make for a more enjoyable experience because of decreased traffic, cheaper priced lodging and food, and increased local charm.

Selecting a nontraditional spring break location can have more opportunities for a diverse activity options compared to a beach destination. An example of a plethora of options is driving to California. The long drive can enable stops in Las Vegas, Los Angeles, Disneyland, California and Yosemite National Park.
