The CSC men’s wrestling brought their dual record to 7-6, on Saturday, after beating the Colorado State University-Pueblo Thunderwolves, 31-9, in Pueblo.
The Eagles won seven of the eight matches that took place.
Quade Smith, sophomore of Layton, Utah, at 125 lbs, kicked off the dual by pinning his opponent in the third period.
The Thunderwolves forfeited the 141-pound match against Chadron’s Ethan Leake, senior of Clovis, California, which raised his record to 14-5.
Quen Campbell, redshirt junior of Tifton, Georgia, at 184 lbs, won 6-2 against Marquis Kemp, improving his record to 12-1.
The rest of the Eagles wrestled well in close matches, managing to hold a comfortable lead over the Thunderwolves.
“We had a game plan going in and we did a great job sticking to it in a hostile environment.” CSC Men’s Wrestling Head Coach Brett Hunter said, “Really, this entire team has done a great job all season. I have loved coaching this group this year. I am excited to see how we can do at the NCAA Regional Championships at the end of the month.”
Chadron’s heavyweight Mason Watt, senior of Broomfield, Colorado, forfeited his match at the end of the day due to health reasons.
“Mason has been a little banged up with some minor stuff going on.” Hunter said, “Our plan was to only use him if we needed to. Fortunately, we didn’t need to.”
The commanding victory over the Thunderwolves allowed the Eagles to jump back into NCAA rankings. The Eagles are currently ranked 23rd in the country as a team.
The Eagles take the mat again Feb. 9 against the Colorado School of Mines Orediggers in Golden, Colorado.
