Eagles fall in final dual

The CSC women’s wrestling team took on the Colorado Mesa Mavericks, of Grand Junction, on Sunday in a rescheduled dual from a week ago.
In the end, Mavericks won six of the nine dual matches, however, forfeited a weight class in their 24-23 victory over the Eagles at the Chicoine Center.
The Eagles fought hard, but Colorado Mesa’s two undefeated wrestlers made victory a difficult task for Chadron.
The opening match of the dual was won by 101-pound Isabella Morales, freshman of Toppenish, Washington, by technical fall over CSC Kinsey Smith, Windsor, Colorado, by a score of 11-1.
The Eagles responded by winning the following two matches, one by forfeit, at 116 pounds, and the other by fall.
Marissa Porsch, freshman of Selden, Kansas, who currently has a season record of 21-3, pinned Kimberly Carlin, freshman of Loveland, Colorado, three minutes and 55 seconds into the match, which increased the team score for CSC.
CSC wrestler Lila Bloomer, freshman of Callaway, pulled off a major upset as she pinned NCWWC third-ranked sophomore Jayleen Sekona, of Anchorage, Alaska, at 191 pounds, five minutes and 10 seconds, into the match.
Samantha Vasquez, sophomore of Durango, Colorado, won the final match that gave the Mavericks the dual victory, at 170 pounds. Vasquez defeated Eagle Kamila Montenegro, junior of Las Vegas, Nevada, 6-4 to win the dual.
In dual matches so far this season, the Eagles are 6-2. Both losses were at the hands of the Mavericks.
The CSC women’s wrestling team will be back on the road when they compete at the NCWWC Regionals on Feb. 19.
