Another weekend snowstorm was unable to stop the CSC track and field team from having another outstanding, record-setting meet at home, at the Don Holst Open, on Saturday.
The Eagles along with competitors from Black Hills State, of Spearfish, South Dakota, South Dakota Mines, of Rapid City, and Montana State University-Billings gathered in the Nelson Physical Activity Center for Saturday’s meet.
Chadron was able to pull away with 15 champions between the men’s and women’s divisions.
Among that group of champions, some were able to set meet records and personal bests.
Dan “Shug” Reynolds, junior of Granby, Colorado, took first in both the weight throw and the shot put for the fourth straight meet this season.
He set a meet record in the weight throw with a throw of 20.42 meters, missing his personal best by .09 meters and beating the second-place finisher, BHSU’s Sully Mack, senior of Watertown, South Dakota, by over 3 meters.
Kyla Sawvell, senior of Wall, South Dakota, also won the weight throw and shot put for the fourth straight meet.
She, just like Reynolds, set a new meet record in the weight throw with a personal best throw of 20.10 meters.
Her throw blew out the competition allowing her to win by nearly 4 meters.
Parker Gonser, junior of Windsor, Colorado, followed right behind Reynolds in the shot put, placing second with a throw of 14.73 meters.
Courtney Smith, junior of Rock Springs, Wyoming, and Madyson Schliep, graduate student of Grand Island, placed third and fourth respectively in the weight throw.
Both CSC runners and jumpers found immense success at the meet.
Carlie Collier, senior of Dunning, broke a streak of second place finishes after winning both the 60-meter and 200-meter dashes respectively.
In doing this, Collier broke her 60-meter personal best with a time of 7.81 seconds.
Greg Logsdon, junior of Torrington, Wyoming, was able to secure his second victory of the season in the 400-meter dash with a time of 50.80 seconds.
Osvaldo Cano, junior of Oshkosh, secured another first place in the 60-meter dash with a time of 7.01 seconds.
Charles Fossey, freshman of Rock Springs, Wyoming, won the 3000-meter run with a time of 8:37.47.
Topi Alahuhta, freshman of Pine, Colorado, Nate Mann, sophomore of Queen Creek, Arizona, and Kyle Shirley, sophomore of Queen Creek, Arizona, placed second, third, and fourth respectively in the 3000-meter run right behind Fossey.
Logan Peila, junior of Miles City, Montana, won the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.93 seconds.
Both the CSC men’s and women’s 1600-meter relay teams took first place.
The CSC jumping squads were led by Hector Ortega, sophomore of Northglenn, Colorado, who won the high jump with a mark of 1.95 meters.
Emory Yoosook, junior of Casper, Wyoming, won the long jump with a mark of 6.45 meters.
Jourdaine Cerenil, sophomore of Pine Bluffs, Wyoming, once again led the Eagle women jumpers, winning the high jump with a mark of 1.58 meters.
Megan Baloun, freshman of Rapid City, South Dakota, Destiny Pelton, sophomore of Fort Morgan, Colorado, and Allison Brummell, freshman of Torrington, Wyoming, placed second, third, and fourth respectively in the high jump, following up Cerenil’s first place finish.
